Install from Microsoft Store
Use the Store button above, then open Daylight. This beta invitation focuses on Windows 11, 64-bit. Store updates are managed by Microsoft Store; its available version may differ from the direct installer.
Choose a scene and start your webcam
Use a Daylight scene, download it if needed, and choose Start webcam. Allow camera access if Windows asks. You can skip account setup; keep time and weather manual for this first test.
Activate the Daylight camera
Choose Install Daylight camera if shown and approve the Windows prompt. Close camera and meeting apps during installation. Once ready, choose Start virtual camera.
Select Daylight in your meeting
Open your meeting app’s camera settings, choose Daylight (Windows Virtual Camera), and turn that app’s background effects off. Leave Daylight running. Audio and microphone settings remain in your meeting app.
The first-call checklist is included in the direct Windows 0.7.25 release and can be reopened from the sidebar. The Store update is not yet verified as available; existing Store builds can follow this page and use Getting connected instead. Detailed setup instructions · Camera troubleshooting
THE WHOLE TEST PLAN
Three things to try.
Complete one real call
Ask a willing partner whether they see your moving video against the background. A scene preview, download, or virtual-camera start alone does not prove a successful call.
Change the atmosphere
During the call, switch the time or weather manually. Ask whether the change looks right. Tell us if motion stutters, your outline looks rough, or the scene feels distracting.
Stop and reconnect
After the call, stop the virtual camera, start it again, and check the meeting preview. Tell us if you have to reselect the camera or restart anything.
You do not need to record the call, invite us into it, or send screenshots of another person.
BETA, WITH CLEAR EDGES
What to expect.
- Setup may need administrator approval. The Windows virtual camera requires Windows 11. Some managed work computers may prevent camera installation.
- Start with standard 30 fps. Performance depends on your webcam, computer, and receiving app. Optional high-motion mode is not a promise of 60 fps in a meeting.
- Meeting apps behave differently. We want your client and version in feedback. This invitation is not a claim that every client, computer, or version has been field-tested.
- Keep Daylight open. Closing it stops its video output. If Daylight runs in the background, use its controls to check the camera state.
- Mac is outside this initial beta request. A separate Mac download exists, but platform releases and available features can differ. Check the product reference before choosing it.
THE MOST USEFUL PART
Tell us where it worked—or didn’t.
Open Send feedback in Daylight’s sidebar. It works without a Daylight account; a reply email is optional. Include:
- The meeting app and version you tried.
- Whether you completed a real call or stopped at installation, webcam preview, or camera selection.
- What you expected, what happened, and what would have helped.
For uneven video, open Camera & health, run the local 30-second check, and review Copy diagnostic report before pasting it into feedback. It measures the local camera path—not what the other person received.
If the app will not open, email [email protected]. Please do not send passwords, meeting links, private conversations, or other people’s images.
YOUR CAMERA, YOUR COMPUTER
Test the camera, not a signup funnel.
The core camera and scene workflow works without an account. Optional cloud AI creation uses an account and credits: one credit for a text request, two with a reference photo. It is not needed for this beta, and no credit purchase is required to follow the test plan.
Webcam segmentation and composition happen locally. Daylight does not upload webcam video for cloud processing or handle meeting audio. Live weather and location are optional.
The app automatically sends a one-time anonymous installation report. Anonymous usage analytics starts on and can be turned off in Preferences without an account. Website Google Analytics only loads after explicit consent. See the privacy policy for collection and retention details.
We distinguish real beta participation from owner checks, scripted QA, and Store certification tests. Call completion is something you report, not something we infer from an installation count.
